What is Auto Insurance?

It is an agreement between you and your insurer in which you pay the insurance company a certain amount of money and, in return, the company will protect you from major financial losses due to an accident for a given period of time.

Why Do You Need Auto Insurance?

Auto accidents can happen – even to the best drivers. Insurance can help cover repairs to your vehicle and medical costs. Insurance is your firewall against economic disaster should you cause an accident and there is property damage or injuries to other people.

What is Auto Insurance Coverage?

An auto insurance policy is a package of several primary coverages. The coverages may vary depending on the state where you live. Your premium payment is the total of these separate coverages for a given period of time.

What are the coverages?

    • Bodily injury liability coverage – pays for bodily injury or death resulting from an accident for which you are at fault and provides you with a legal defense.
    • Property damage liability coverage – provides you with protection if your car accidentally damages another person's property. It also provides you with a legal defense.
    • Medical payments, no-fault or personal injury coverage – usually pays for the medical expenses of the driver and passengers in your car incurred as a result of a covered accident regardless of fault.
    • Uninsured motorist coverage – pays for your injuries and, in some circumstances, certain property damage caused by an uninsured or a hit-and-run driver. In some cases, underinsured motorist coverage is also included. This is for cases in which the at-fault driver has insufficient insurance.
    • Comprehensive physical damage coverage – pays for damage to your car from theft, vandalism, flood, fire, and other covered perils.
    • Collision coverage – pays for damage to your car when it hits or is hit by another object.

    • Bodily injury liability coverage –insures you against certain damages if you injure or kill someone while operating your motorcycle and also provides you with a legal defense if another party in the accident files a lawsuit against you.  We have multiple limits of protection from which to choose.
    • Collision coverage – pays for covered damage to your motorcycle when it hits, or is hit by, another vehicle.
    • Comprehensive physical damage coverage – pays for covered losses resulting from incidents other than collision - such as theft, fire or vandalism.
    • Medical payments, No-Fault or Personal injury protection coverage – in most states you can select medical coverage for yourself and your passengers.
    • Property damage liability coverage – insures you against certain damages caused to someone else's property while operating your motorcycle and provides you with a legal defense for such claims if another party files a lawsuit against you.  We have multiple limits of protection from which to choose.
    • Uninsured/Underinsured motorists coverage – pays for injuries caused by an uninsured driver in a crash that is not your fault.

Commercial vehicle insurance is needed to cover the cars, trucks, and vans used in conducting your business. Large fleets as well as small businesses should be properly covered by a commercial auto insurance policy.

What is commercial vehicle insurance?

Commercial Vehicle Insurance is a policy of physical damage and liability coverages for amounts, situations, and usage not covered by a personal auto policy. This type of business insurance covers a variety of vehicles and is also referred to as commercial auto insurance, commercial car insurance, truck insurance, or fleet insurance.

Why do you need commercial vehicle insurance?

In general, if a vehicle is used in tasks related to the operator's occupation, profession or business, other than commuting, a commercial policy is necessary.

    • If you are using your vehicle to transport goods or people for a fee or if you use your vehicle to conduct a service, you may need a commercial auto insurance policy.
    • A commercial auto policy may be appropriate if you need higher limits of liability because of the nature of your work.
    • Hauling a considerable weight in tools or equipment or towing a trailer used to conduct your business may require a commercial vehicle insurance policy.
    • A commercial insurance policy may be needed if employees operate the vehicle or if ownership is in the name of a corporation or partnership.

What does commercial vehicle insurance cover?

Commercial vehicle insurance, like your personal auto policy, provides similar coverages such as liability, collision, comprehensive, medical payments (or personal injury protection) and uninsured motorists coverage. However, there are also differences between a commercial auto insurance policy and your personal auto policy that may include eligibility, definitions, coverages, exclusions, and limits.

What are the coverages?

    • Bodily injury liability coverage – pays for bodily injury or death resulting from an accident for which you are at fault and provides you with a legal defense.
    • Property damage liability coverage – provides you with protection if your car accidently damages another persons property. It also provides you with a legal defense.
    • Combined single limit (CSL) – Liability policies typically offer separate limits that apply to bodily injury claims for property damage. A combined single limits policy has the same dollar amount of coverage per covered occurrence whether bodily injury or property damage, one person or several.
